Headache After Exercise Are Dangerous
Have you ever been in the middle of exercising when you were struck by a horrendous headache? Well, guess what? You are not alone. Who knows whether it’s just a minor annoyance or a signal of something more serious! Even though an exercise headache is surprisingly common, you’ll need to decide if you want to just shrug it off or go to the doctor. The following article will help you make that decision.
Headache Chain-reaction
First of all, you’ll need to take a look at the overall picture, making sure you’re getting the treatment you need for headaches. Do you already suffer from headaches or migraines? If so, your exercise headache may be what is called a headache chain-reaction. In this case, your doctor may recommend you take a pain killer just before you exercise. A couple of other common scenarios might be that you are suffering from what is either an “effort migraine” or an “exertion headache,” a throbbing headache in the back of your head. Neither of these types of headaches is serious, but they do require pain killers.
Rule Of Thumb
However, a headache after you exercise can be a warning sign of something more serious going on. When it comes to headaches, any sudden change might be something serious. So, the general rule of thumb is that if you get a new headache after you exercise, don’t wait, and see a doctor right away.
Blood Vessels
A headache after exercise could indicate an abnormality in the blood vessels themselves. Very serious indeed, this could be a warning of a brain hemorrhage (blood flow when blood vessels break).
Heat Stroke
I have experienced a heat stroke (or heat exhaustion) and it is definitely not a laughing matter. If you like to exercise in the heat be sure and watch out for the following warning signs: difficulty breathing, dizziness along with headache, and sore muscles. If this happens to you, you’ll need to get help and quickly cool off your body.
Tumors
Although very rare, everyone is afraid of brain tumors. Unlike typical headaches, they are usually worse in the morning and intensify over the course of several weeks. If you do have a brain tumor, the headache will be worse when you exercise. Some other symptoms to look for are: blurred vision, unsteadiness and weakness. Since you want to catch these things as early as possible, if you get a new headache, see your doctor right away.
Warning Signs
Following are some signs that will help you know if your exercise headache is serious:
* You have injured your head in the past * You have a stiff neck * Your headache won’t go away * You experience either paralysis or a tingling sensation * You’re experiencing other symptoms elsewhere * Any other change in symptoms
Talk To Your Doctor
Even if it’s not a sign of another disease, dealing with the pain caused by your headache will help you benefit more from exercise and will benefit your relaxation time, too. Although you may have other symptoms in addition to the headache, it may not be an immediate problem. However, in order to remove all doubt it is a good idea to talk to your doctor. Remember, your health is worth it!
